A good wing can feel like a skill you either have or you don't. It isn't, though. It's a method, and once you know the steps it gets much easier. Here's how I do mine with SUPERLINE.
The 4 steps
1. Draw your first line
Start at the outer corner of your eye and draw a line that follows the natural curve of your lower lid, carrying on past the corner. This is the guide for your whole wing, the longer this line, the bigger the wing.
2. Link it back to the lash line
Flip the brush. About 90% of the way up that first line, draw a second line that connects it back to your lash line, roughly where your iris meets the lash line. Do this with your eyes open, because that's how you get the angle right. You want the wing to look perfect with your eyes open, so get the angle right with open eyes.
3. Fill in the space
Fill in the triangle between your two lines, make sure you get right down to the lash line with no gaps.
4. Connect and tighten
Link the wing to your lash line, and tidy up the point if it needs it for a crisp finish.
A few tips
- Keep your eyes open for step 2. It's the part that sets the angle, and the wing looks different with your eyes closed.
- Build the wing in stages. Two lines and a fill is easier to control than one long flick.
- Tidy at the end. A small tweak to the point makes it look sharper.
